I've been working on a personal project called "The Precipice" on and off in my spare time (which is dwindling more and more these days...)
In the beginning I set out to create 1 character, 1 creature, and one environment to set the mood for what I hope will one day grow into something much, much larger.
This was the first location I chose to work with when starting the project. I hadn't done much work with interiors before so this was a nice exercise for me to figure out how to bounce natural light around a open structure.
I used Sketchup to knock out some quick primitive shapes before bringing it into Photoshop for the final painting. I used DAZ to light the scene but ended up altering the lighting for the final piece. I wanted to get across that cinematic look so the piece would feel as though it came from a film production studio.
::EDIT:: Just finished up the tutorial for this piece. Head on over here to take a look: [link]
Excellent work! I like how you used the 3D environment to layout the scene and perfect the perspective. Then moving into the 2D world to accomplish what would be extremely difficult and time consuming to create in a 3D program. Extremely well done!
This is really cool : ] the research and steps you shown here are also very helpful for me to better understand the techniques used! Thanks for showing it ;D (Or is it a requirement for the contest anyway?)
Thanks much! It's not a requirement, but as far as concept/production art goes, i think the process work is all part of the final a deserve to be on the same page.
Extremely well done!
The research is very interesting.
